St. Nicholas’, East Grafton

The congregation of St Nicholas at East Grafton consists of a small number of dedicated, friendly and welcoming people who are keen to grow the church. We are looking for new ways and initiatives to achieve this, and particularly to attract the younger generation.

General Information

Wilton, Marten, Wexcombe and West Grafton are all part of the parish of East Grafton. We currently hold a communion service on the first Sunday of each month. Key services in the church year (Christmas Day, Easter, Remembrance Sunday) are attended by significantly high numbers which reflects the breadth of support from this rural community, most of which are the farming families who continue to be our mainstay of support.

As a community of five villages, a wide range of people (who may not be “churchgoers”) contribute enthusiastically to community activities in the local village hall and in church holding events such as Winter Warmers Lunch, Suppers on Burns Night and St Georges Day and Harvest Suppers. For the last Remembrance Day celebration, representatives from all 5 villages worked together to transform the village dike and green into a trench and battlefield complete with replica army vehicles which made an incredible impact on the general atmosphere of the day. Our desire is for the church to find ways to build on this spirit of mutual support and co-operation to encourage and enable others to recognise and receive the love God has for every individual in this community.
