Easter Sunday
The Children are invited to search for Easter Eggs that are hidden around the Church and then gather at the front. On a piece of paper inside each chocolate egg is written a part of the Easter story, from Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, and finally to the resurrection on Eater Sunday. Everyone then lines up in the correct order to read out the messages.
Below are some of the floral displays
Good Friday - The Way of the Cross
Station 1 (Church)
Jesus is condemned to death - Matthew 27: 20-23 and 26 But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed. "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?" asked the governor. "Barabbas," they answered. "What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?" Pilate asked. They all answered, "Crucify him!" "Why? What crime has he committed?" asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, "Crucify him!"
Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.Station 2 (Church Green)
The Cross is laid on Jesus - Matthew 27: 27-31 Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. "Hail, king of the Jews!" they said. They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.
Station 3 Taskers Lane (Spreadburys)Jesus falls the first time - Hebrews 2: 17-18 For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Station 4 (The White Hart)
Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus carry his cross Matthew 27: 32 As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross.
Station 5 (The Post Office)
Jesus falls for the second time -Isaiah 53: 5-6 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way;
and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Station 6 (Seymour Pond)
Jesus speaks to the women of Jerusalem - Luke 23: 27-29 A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. Jesus turned and said to them, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. For the time will come when you will say, 'Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!'
Station 7 (Martingale Road)
Jesus falls for the third time - Peter 2: 22-24 "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth."When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. "He himself bore our sins" in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; "by his wounds you have been healed."
Station 8 (Londis village shop)
Jesus is stripped of his garments - John 19 23-24 When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. "Let's not tear it," they said to one another. "Let's decide by lot who will get it."
This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that said,
"They divided my clothes among them
and cast lots for my garment." So this is what the soldiers did.
Station 9 (The village hall)
Jesus is nailed to the cross - Luke 23: 33-34 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
Station 10 (Ailesbury Way)
Jesus dies on the cross - Luke 23: 44-46 It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit."When he had said this, he breathed his last.
Station 11 (Seymour Court)
Jesus is taken down from the cross - John 19 32-34 and 38 The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.
Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate's permission, he came and took the body away.
Station 12 (Church)
Jesus is laid in the tomb - John 19: 40-42 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
Easter Experience
Welcome to our Easter Experience
There are 6 stations positioned around the church telling the story of Jesus's journey
from Palm Sunday until Easter DayPlease come in and stop and reflect on what each station is saying to you
You are very welcome!
Hopes and Dreams
On Palm Sunday Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey to the cheers of an expectant crowd who were waiting for a Saviour to come and help them live in peace.
They waved palm leaves and shouted 'HOSANNA'
The Servant King
Jesus sets the example of washing the disciples' feet as a symbol of caring for one another. He says to them,
'now that I, your Lord and teacher, have washed your feet, you should also wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you' (John Ch.13 v.12-15)
Remember Me
On the night before he died, Jesus shared supper with his friends.
He asked them to do this often to remember him. He invites us to do the same at our service of Holy Communion.
In the garden of Gethsemane
The night before he died, Jesus was left in the garden all alone as his friends deserted him.
We know now that we never have to feel alone. He told his friends:'Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid' (John Ch.14 v.27)
The Crucifixion
On Good Friday Jesus was put to death on a Cross. Whilst they waited for him to die, the soldiers cast dice to see which one of them would have his robes.
The Cross reminds Christians of the death of Jesus but because He rose again it has also become a sign of hope for anyone who is suffering.
Resurrection
On Easter Sunday morning, women visited the tomb of Jesus and found it empty:
Jesus had risen from the dead, giving his followers the hope that death is not the end. This is why we celebrate Easter and give eggs as a sign of new life and a hope for the future.
Mothering Sunday - 18th MarchEveryone is encouraged to come up and collect a small posy of daffodils for their Mum.
Jazz Concert
On Saturday 25th February a Jazz concert was held at All Saints' Church in Burbage to raise money to buy seeds and tools for the people of southern Sudan.
The Helen Barrett Trio played a selection of jazz classics plus some of their own songs to a packed church, raising £400 towards this project. At the end of the concert, Archdeacon Alan Jeans tried his hand at playing the double bass!
Over the past three years the people of Burbage have raised £25,000 for various projects in southern Sudan. These efforts are on-going and we hope in the near future to exchange people – not permanently!
Archdeacon plays for the Sudan!
